University of Economics in Katowice launched Alumni Ambassadors Platform with mobile app “Alumni UEKatowice”.

From now on, future international students will have the opportunity to talk in their native language about our university, student life and first-hand experience.

The main aim of the platform was to gather enthusiastic people in one place and make it easy to contact them right from the mobile devices. The platform features our Ambassadors from all over the world who are eager to share their experience with prospective students, possible partner universities and companies in their home countries.

For whom?
The Platform is targeted to both those who want to contact our Ambassadors in order to get information about studying at UE Katowice and those who want to become Ambassadors of the University. As Ambassadors we recruit all those who stayed at UE Katowice in the past years (as exchange or full-time student), who miss those great times and want to keep in touch with their mates from the “good old times”. Their main role is to bridge the gap between their home countries and their international alma mater: UE Katowice.

We plan to organise reunion meetings for the Ambassadors in Katowice and other parts of the world and eventually open alumni chapters and networks in various countries.

How does it work?
The platform consists of the map of Ambassadors, including their contact details. Everyone who wants to contact any of the ambassadors can effortlessly communicate with them through telephone, e-mail or social media. All you need to do is to click on marker of each country. You will get information how you can easily contact certain ambassador by one click only. Mobile app “Alumni UEKatowice” is free to use and is projected in English language. Users of Android already can download app on Google Play. Meanwhile, the process of verification is being proceeded for Windows Phone Store and iOS App Store. Moreover, candidates can read their testimonials.

Being an Ambassador is an exciting experience, makes it easy to meet new people and looks good in the CV. Each Ambassador receives an official Certificate signed by our Rector and a set of University gadgets.

Origins of the platform and app?
The Alumni Ambassadors’ Platform has been prepared within the InterUni project with partners from Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland. – “We have worked on the Alumni Ambassadors Platform” for more than half a year . Before the platform has been launched, we had to contact our international alumni and encourage them to become our ambassadors. Usually, we’ve contacted them through social media. With majority of them we are in touch in real life, often mates and friends. That was pretty astonishing to see how enthusiastic most of them were to be in touch with the university again – says Edyta Lachowicz-Santos, head of the International Communication and Relations Office, coordinator for the implementation of the Alumni Ambassadors Platform.

What’s interesting, the platform and mobile app were created by students from the Faculty of Informatics and Communication: Mateusz Gajowski, Baniamin Gorzela, Kacper Głowiński.

- At the moment we have ambassadors from countries like: Turkey, Italy, Austria, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Ireland, Egypt, Finland, Switzerland, Spain, Nigeria, France, Slovenia, Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain or even from Taiwan or Columbia. As it seems clear, we will develop our platform in order to increase the number of our ambassadors from all over the world – says Magdalena Skowron, coordinator for InterUni project.
